Larry,

DELL's Jan 98 and Apr 98 EPSs were 20 cents and 22 cents respectively. Earnings surprise was 1 cents in either case. Translates to 10% increase in EPS. I do not have the number for Jan 97 earnings (Apr 98 was 14 cents), but the EPS curve seems to have the same slope i.e 10%.

Also note the product mix switch. Server and storage sales have less seasonality than desktops. In any case, one can only guess at the actual reports vs. the estimates. I agree that reporting this kind of EPS is not going to be easy. But then, DELL's management seems to excel at delivering spectacular results for not so easy projects.

All in my opinion, of course.
