LG Electronics' 4X DVD-ROM Drive Allows Consumers To Have The Ultimate Multimedia Experience

LG Electronics announces the new DRD-841B Digital Versatile Disc (DVD) player. The DRD-841B has a maximum data transfer rate of 5.4MB/sec with DVD media, 4X the performance of first generation drives on the market. In addition, the DRD-841B reads CD-ROM discs at up to 32X (4.8MB/sec). The drive achieves an average access time of 120ms (80ms when reading a standard CD-ROM disc) and features 512 kilobytes of buffer memory. Burst transfer rate is 16.7 MB/sec, using the industry standard E-IDE/ATAPI interface.

The new drive supports DVD-5, DVD-9, DVD-10, DVD-18, CD-ROM Mode 1&2, CD-DA, CD-XA (Mode 2, Form 1&2), CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, CD Plus, CD Enhanced, CD-Bridge, CD-I, FMV, Photo-CD (Multi-Session) on personal computers running Windows 95/98, Windows 3.1x, NT 4.0/5.0, MS-DOS 3.1 and higher.
Physical dimensions are the same as typical CD-ROM drives allowing easy integration of the DRD-841B in current system designs. The tray design allows either horizontal or vertical internal mounting with a quiet operation motorized tray. The unit measures roughly 5.75" x 1.63" x 7.9" with bezel and weighs about 1 Kg.
Front panel controls on the DRD-841B include easy CD player controls Load/Eject button, Play/Skip button and a Volume Control (for the headphone jack). Back panel connectors include ATAPI 2.6 E-IDE Interface, 4-pin power input, analog and digital audio outputs and mode selector jumper.
With a 125,000 hour Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), other features on this model include MPC Level 3 compliance, Plug and Play with Windows 95/98, advanced dustproof design, spin-down mode for energy saving and a digital audio output connector.
Model DRD-841B will have a suggested retail price of $199.95. Available through reseller channels, mail order and via the Internet, the LG Electronics DVD-ROM drive is backed by a one year "Peace of Mind" replacement warranty.
