Stephen,

I visited Indonesia a few years ago and still have fond memories on how warm the people are, especially those in Bali. How sentiments can turn so quickly.

During my visit, I was often called "boss" by airport officials, cap drivers and other incidental contacts. I did ask them why they call me "boss". They simply said I look like a "fat cat". In restrospect, I wonder how much my national origin had to do with "boss" vs my weight, which is no more than the average Texan.

As for Gore's comments, I just wonder what would have happened if APEC was held in the US and Mahatir is the keynote speaker. Instead of address economic issues, he makes some off the wall remarks supporting the Republicans and Ken Starr, hinting that Clinton should step down.
