Globe trumpets Bid.Com as Canada's most popular stock

Bid.Com International Inc BII
Shares issued 21,023,000 Nov 17 close $2.02
Wed 18 Nov 98 In the News
The Globe and Maill reports in its Wednesday edition that Canada's most
popular stock in recent days has not been a stalwart such as BCE or Air
Canada, but rather the little-known Bid.Com International, which is riding
a wave of renewed interest in Internet-based issues. Reporter Mark Evans
says that for the second consecutive day, Bid.Com topped the volume leaders
as 3.49 million shares traded on Tuesday. The stock, which rose eight cents
to $2.02, has almost doubled in the past week. The Globe does not note why
it trumpets penny stocks as peers of BCE or Air Canada. Paul Godin,
Bid.Com's chairman and chief executive, shown posing behind some big grass,
says his company is an overnight success story after five years. The Globe
parallels tiny Bid.Com to giant eBay, which sparked another round of
Internet frenzy among investors with its successful IPO in September. Mr.
Godin expects revenue of $20-million this year, $30-million next year and
profitability in the third quarter of next year.
