Agree. SFAM is a niche player without the muscle to horn in on the Big Kahuna's critical mass: sales force, financing deals, total package solutions. Why be more of the same by acquiring another niche player, especially one that is struggling to make it thru this down part of the cycle.

But consider a KLA, a Novellus, a Teradyne. The former two are replenishing their market cap with the perception of a rebound.

AMAT's earnings yesterday---beating expectations, albeit lowered ones-- may bring the sector forward again and enhance the buying power of the top tiers. Maybe. One thing, imo, that is not a maybe is that these guys need to offer a CMP component to their product mix..quickly.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but there is lots of talk of an eventual merger between IPEC and SFAM, followed by an acquisition of that entity by LRCX, followed by an eventual merger with NVLS, creating a major AMAT competitor. This has been talked about for the last year.

Will it happen, will IPEC merger with SFAM...who knows...I just reported the rumor...

FYI the players at AEA included executives from all of the major semi-equipment companies. So as far as not knowing their asses from a hole in the ground, take it up with Morgan, Hill or Bagley.....they might take exception to your opinion.
