IPEC - #1 in CMP?

IPEC claims to be #1 in Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP). CMP is required for the fabrication of chips with geometries below .35 micron. CMP is also projected to be one of the fastest growing segments in the semiconductor capital equipment industry.

Applied Materials has its own CMP line, the Mirra system. Does anyone think that IPEC's Avanti line is much better than Mirra?

IPEC has been rumored to be a takeover target of Lam Research, which has no CMP division and is, I think, the 2nd largest US semi equipment company. With CMP critical for denser chip geometries, IPEC seems to be an ideal play in the semi equipment sector. I bought at 20 3/4 three days ago, and I expect to make at least 50%.

Any comments? Are there any IPEC shareholders out there? At what price did you buy in?

Philip
