Another Ayn Rand fan. Perhaps it is the John Gault defense, but I was actually not referring to a threat but an actual MSFT shutdown. Threats aren't worth the breath it takes to utter them. ( ie Iraq.) Just come on out, pull Windows, and see what happens. They can easily afford it. MSFT has more cash than the net worth of 3/4 of the companies on NYSE. Just wait it out a year or two.

Of course, Sun and IBM are just hoping for that to happen.

All this is not really a serious discussion by the way. Gates won't do this as his stock would plummit and hence his worth. Not only that, it would potentially backfire on MSFT and destroy his company. But it is a fun discussion.
