Murrey,

Recently my Zip drive broke with the infamous "click of
death" problem. When inserting a disk into the drive it would
click a few times then just not work regardless of how many times
I tried to access my data. After a few calls with Iomega they
replaced my drive free of charge, even though it was out of warranty.
They even shipped it second day, and included a prepaid postage
label to return the old drive. The best thing to do, if you
already have not done it, is to go to this site
www.grc.com/clickdeath.htm, then call Iomega and ask for the person
named at this site. When I did this they put me in touch with
someone who does warranties, and I was promptly taken care of in
a short amount of time.

Good luck,

Tom

Murrey -

If Iomega customer service didn't ship when they said they would, and didn't do other things when they said they would, that is a bad thing.

However, I find it hard to believe that anyone promised you that the data on any bad disk would definitely be recovered. Are you sure they didn't say that they would TRY to recover the data?

There are plenty of things that, yes, are completely beyond anyone's control and could make it impossible to recover data from any disk. That isn't an excuse, that's reality. And therefore, if someone at Iomega promised you that the data would definitely be recovered, then that person must have been new, or stupid, because no one could guarantee that.

You say you had two Jaz drives go bad, and you also had one internal Zip that had a problem. This is out of how many drives in total?

No offense Murry but what are you doing to these things;
Three weeks ago, I experienced a failure of two JAZZ devices. I was assured that not only would the drives be repaired, but the lost data would be retrieved.

Today, three weeks later, I have one of the drives and one of the three disks of lost data recovered. Customer support blames the false promises on things that are out of their control (Its the old ”Its not my problem syndrome”).

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you about the internal ZIP drive that went bad on me Tuesday....

If you use it that much and you have to look at it when you insert the disks why don't you know how to spell it? Its JAZ with 1 z. I see my ZIP+ and Jaz everyday you can't miss it. Maybe thats the problem, watch where you're sticking those things.

Seriously. Zip disks are pretty tough but you have to be a little more gentle with Jaz disks. I'm sure if you damage the disk bad enough they will damage your drive.

If you fell that strongly SHORT THE STOCK.

You poor victim. Is this the first time something you bought broke?
My co-worker bought a new Infiniti QX-4 or something like that about 35-40K. Very nice sport utility. Of the 3 months he's had it, 2 months the car was in for repairs.

He has a different loaner every other week. Does Infiniti suck? Do you think there are any satisfied buyers? There, there, it really sucks when it happens to you, we understand...
