Jon K:

The telcos with their regulated monopoly thought processes view DSL as harmfull to their high margin T1 lines. They don't quite comprehend that cable modems, direct satellight and CLECs are what they need to worry about. Fortunately for all of us, if the PC makers start shipping PCs with DSL modems, the consumers will start complaining to their respective Public Utility Commissions (PSC) about their telco not providing DSL service. Enough complaints and the PSCs will mandate a rate cut because the telco is not providing advanced services. I think that threat of rate cuts is what will force the telcos to roll out DSL quickly. Otherwise we'd be in for a repeat of ISDN.
