There is likely very little ANCR stock currently held
in margin accounts as few brokerages currently permit
it.

Since short sales are made with stock borrowed from
MARGIN accounts, this could be the problem.

Pat,

I would only add to Herb's comments that the rule for most brokers is that the stock is not marginable if it is less than $5. Many brokers want you to open a qualified margin account in order to short a stock.

Of course you can open your own hedge fund and start investing in floorless convertibles ...
