possible early demise of m.s. dell
i would like to know what the impact on the stock would be if security around msd is not good enough on one of his trips, for example...i am concerned because i feel fundamentally that a person like bill gates is safer; it's my impression that msft is more ready for an attempt like that than, say, dell. I get this impression indirectly, that is, from the general complacency of the leaders of this thread. Since i assume that many of the leaders of this thread know much about the company, i project their complacency onto the company. Financial success and having "your photo on the cover" can be dangerous in today's world. I have no interest in having msd travel around the world, exposing himself, when in fact, his personal presense is not what i am buying when i buy into the company. It seems to me, that msd is a higher profile potential target, than even mr. gates, because it is known that msd travels more, and has a real current interest in expanding the power of Dell internationally--and right now, if that could happen that fast. Andy Grove is not complacent; his title "only the paranoid will survive" is also a valuable message. Many times, the reference to "mickey" by Kemble, for example, or about mickey's smile, drive me absolutely crazy...What if our dear "mickey" is NO LONGER?...CLEARLY, the early demise of Mr. Gates would have VERY LITTLE IMPACT on the stock...THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT THE CASE WITH DELL and the thread is part of the problem. Discussion of Dell as a team, is much more honest. Reverence of "our mickey" only attracts a hero worship kind of shareholder, which is not what i want by my side, during competitive pressure. Picturing all the estates which Dell stock has paid for, is nice i suppose, but it doesn't necessarily show much concern for the interests of persons who are relatively newer shareholders. Of course, if an event of that nature took place, the company would survive. And when the stock took a total dive, many already wealthy shareholders would buy, and buy heavily! How can this thread be of more service to the brilliant young minds, who might be new shareholders, for example? Of course, goldman sachs would be buying heavily for the Dell company stock option program...Undoubtedly, since they are on the board of directors, this possibility has been discussed. (for several reasons, previously posted by me on this thread, i do not think they should even be on the board of directors.) bill gates would be in there buying...So would the executives of say, amazon and yahoo...Is there any way to lessen such a shock? In much the way a class action suit is assembled, is there a way to construct a giant pooled derrivative transaction, triggered only if the stock went way way down...Probably the reality is that there is no way to protect such a shareholder, unless such a shareholder is able to wait say, one year, for the stock to come back. I am not making these comments to draw any attention to me. Also, i do not have an ego problem, which seems to interest some here---whether the leaders of Sun Micro have say, some fundamental psychiatric obsession over Mr. Gates. I also am not paranoid. If i were i would certainly not be using my real name here. I believe in really frank discussion of vulnerabilities. The thread certainly contains EXTENSIVE discussion of product/service strategies. I AM fearful of the long term impact of the huge amount of funds which have moved into the internet stocks. In an earlier post today, i described my concerns about this. Finally, it is my hope that a person like myself can submit even a subject like this, without having either the skill or time to have it read as professionally as many posts here are. I am taking care of a dying friend now, so not only are my thoughts on death, but i am not putting my best foot forward, in terms of writing skills, i'm sure. Thank you in advance for your help with the above concerns.
