Perhaps to make money for the founder, and the venture capital firm that funded it? This venture capital firm has taken many co' public, and once taken public, most of them have fizzled badly over intermediate timeframes. But the vc firm, Kleiner Perkins, almost always makes good money nonetheless. On amzn, I belive their combined paper and realized gains by now are close to $1 billion dollars, and very possibly above $1 billion.

And the founder is worth about $3 billion as of today.

How's that for a motive?

Victor

Jeesh, and all along I actually believed that businesses were started with the idea of
succeeding. Silly me (he says, slapping the side of his head).

How could I have missed the fact that Amazon was started for some other reason? But,
now I'm even more confused. Just why was the company started?

Chuckie,

You will understand better in about 6 months. You might as well stay confused until then.
