A contrarian view of the merger

I'm not at all sure I like it, as it seems to me SFAM will of necessity lose focus. The board will be larger (9 vs. 6), they'll have to figure out how to unify the product lines (which take quite different approaches to the problem - and didn't SFAM at one point indicate they thought the rotary design was inferior?), and they'll have to sort out all the alliances IPEC has been party to.

Meanwhile, AMAT will be concentrating on improving their CMP offerings.

I suppose if SFAM can quickly decide which IPEC products to adopt and which to sunset and if this gives SFAM a shot at Intel's business...

Or if indeed it is just a prelude to a NVLS takeover...
