Dragonfly:

Regarding terrestrial wireless access in Reno,
both Las Vegas and Reno (and in fact all the big
cities in desert areas of the South West) are ideal
for broadband wireless because of the low rain and
lack of vegetation. An added attraction of the big
Nevada cities is the possibility of delivering
video programming for hotel guests. During the
LMDS auction last March, Las Vegas was one of the most
sought after licenses. If I remember correctly, it
was won by a group financed by Mario Gabelli.

So, your perception is the reverse of what it should
be: satellites for Alaska and sparsely populated areas,
terrestrial wireless for cities (even in the middle of
deserts).

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
