"The way to judge a winner is by quarterly earnings and market share reports."

True enough! So the winner of the GSM battle was Nokia. Congratulations to them.

But I think that you are implying that is a victory in future competition over cdmaOne and cdma2000.

Investment is about predicting the future successfully, not looking backwards at quarterly earnings and market share reports - unless you notice the trend in cdmaOne sales and The Q's revenue and profit, albeit smallish at this stage and wonder where they are going.

You also said it pays to know what products the consumer prefers. Even better to know what they will prefer, then invent it! QUALCOMM has done that and Nokia to their credit bought in years ago, but L M Ericsson did not think CDMA could work. Nokia is off to a good start in the cdmaOne race. Well, they are off to a start anyway.

***OT*** Joe, I think I'll drop the KAL007 business because you are getting a bit personal, making more snide remarks, and all I wanted to do was correct Rajala. You didn't explain how the wind, confusion, or some other theory got it off course, so you'll have to have your theory of why and I'll have mine.

To call Saddam's Iraq 'friendly' even when allegedly supporting the USA is stretching a point. I wouldn't turn my back on friends like that or let them get too close. I recall the Iraqi attack on the USA boat. I don't recall whether there was loss of life.
