Hi Wizzer. I am patiently waiting for them to offer the service where I live, outside Ottawa! I have a second phone line + unlimited at $24.95 so the switch to cable will be cheaper for me!!

Wizzer,
Like many before me stated, cable connection is a must. You can have the fastest "machine" and "state of the art equipment" but the internet connection will limit it's ability to perform.
The most important aspect in day trading is the speed of trade execution. Unfortunately in Canada we are somewhat limited and have to overcome shortfalls of services that are available to us.
I have found that even a fast computer entry will not guarantee a fast trade as it has to be executed by a trader who, depending on his work load, might not get to it right away. At times I've waited up to 5 minutes for my order to show up on my screen which is a clear indication that:
1. Trader is entering orders with the middle finger (possibly 15 million dollars worth)
2. Trader is smitten with the charm of a co-worker.
3. Trader doesn't like my awesome personality.
4. Trader hates his job (contemplating applying for a post office position).
5. Trader ran out of the toilet paper in the washroom.
6. All of the above
To get around this problem I've chosen Green Line phone- in- service to be my back up system.
Most of the time I get to talk to the trader within 30 seconds and my order is in under 1 minute.
I certainly avoid any brokerage house that will ask me to press something, InvestorsLine comes to mind. The last time I've pressed a number, I got connected to a Chinese trader. I assume that he asked me for my account number, but being very cautious by nature I refused to go along with it. If you notice a potential "red hot trade", don't hesitate to pay more commission for a guarantee of a fast trade execution. The last time I decided to fulfill my desire to save some money on commission I gave up a sizable profit that dwarfed the extra commission, and all I had to do is pick up the phone. Remember to make money you have to spend it first. Good luck.
