German grammar (may it be thrice damned to hell!) Thrice would be insufficient. I'd suggest at least six times. I've been told that German philosophy students prefer to read Kant in English: his sentences are kilometric, and the last quarter of each sentence is a long list of modifiers, stacked up like firewood in a New Hampshire November. Pretty grim prospect. No wonder the Nazis misinterpreted Nietzsche so drastically. They probably got the modifiers mixed up. Steve
