Scott, your advice is very good for any long or short. In today's market, my rules are:

1. Not more than 10% of portfolio in one stock.
2. Not more than 20% in one market sector.
3. No longs on margin, in fact keep cash reserve.
4. Total shorts not more than 50% of portfolio value.
5. Reduce any position that grows to violate any of the above.

These rules are why I am still alive to play after making such a bad move as shorting YHOO 2 weeks ago.
