Blake,

your post is too long and cover too many issues. Why don't you just buy buy buy.

Seriously, I think we need to look at the semi sector for a moment. MU is in a position that if they decide to wage an all out war by going 300mm, copper, plasma or whatever super duper technology, they can wipe out the Koreans and may be even the Japanese. The problem obviously is money. MU may not have the ability to wage any war while digesting the TXN purchases.

The other killer would be INTC. They can out spend CYRIX and AMD, forcing them into the catch up game again. So far, INTC has not publicly increased their cap exp budget.

Short of the above, I am not sure what would rush the upgrades that the semi eq companies are hoping for, especially in any significant magnitude.

Katherine, what do you think?

Many of the global issues are discussed in much greater detail in other threads. I think there is a gap between reality and what is reported briefly on TV. At the moment, the market is behaving as if everything in the world is fixed. This is simply not the case. To confuse the magnitude of the current global economic crisis with minor turmoils in normal times is like comparing the Vietnam War to the weekend in Grenada.

Morgan Stanley has a great global economic forum updated daily.
