I couldn't locate a gerbil, or a cannon for that matter, so I had to improvise.
I took my trusty surgical-tube slingshot (which can hurl a water balloon 100 yards) and a rattus rattus I caught trespassing in my backyard. Some duct tape served to limit the ammunition's escape attempts, although he was biting with a vengeance; I allowed for a 3 mph crosswind and launched him. Quite satisfactory. He has/had a fairly streamlined shape and offered minimal drag, hitting with a most impressive splat! The Outpost.com commercial is a bit misleading though, as from my experience rodent-ammo is not reuseable.
