That's no excuse;if you were flying in an airplane you could have updated it so unless you were having a near death experience at 36,000 feet you are in trouble. Reminds me of a cost accounting professor I had years ago. It was the first day in class and a student asked if a doctors note was required for a medical absence and the professor said that if you were well enough to go to the doctor you were well enough to attend his class before going to the doctor as it obviously wasn't a life threatening situation. Then some one in the back of the room asked if a funeral was a valid excuse for missing the final to which the professor answered yes indeed and added that no written proof was needed as the professor read the obit's daily and would surely notice that the student had died. No-one missed the final.
