You missed one point, Terra Nova IS the branch offices direct competitor!
I am guessing that Terra Nova may be in a big hurry to pull that page from their site, so you may want to snag a copy for yourself. For others the link is:

If you are referring to the margin explanation on the TNT site, it is new. Describing these rules is almost as hard to do as understanding them. The guys at the X are not trying to hide anything. We put the site up recently and it is still not complete. We didn't have a site because we were so busy trying to build the trading system we didn't have time to create one. Our business structure called for the Series 7 reps to handle your questions. We realized this was not working because people complained about things like not getting a good answer to margin questions. We made a mistake and are trying to correct it by making our knowledge available to you directly.

Shoot1st, MBT has an explanation of margin requirements that they e-mailed me. It is still totally baffling and obscure, so my solution is to rely not on the basic acctinfo.mqt screen, which tells you nothing about your overnite power, but rely on acctinfo2.mqt, and make sure that the various entries - MMR, beginning power, scalped profit and intraday credit add up to a positive number. Since I've done that I've stayed out of trouble.

I'll say one thing for Scanshift - the discussion he provoked has certainly added to my knowledge of how the system works. So thanks to Scanshift and Jerry Putnam!
