Spots, thanks for the GREAT site of tools! I agree with you and Dan... go get the data and build a new system. I'm pretty sure the disk took a hit because CHKDSK reported index corruption and the reboot reported problems with half a dozen applications. Oh fun.

The real problems were that nothing worked: The 3disk boot worked, but would not read the CD for Workstation which was at SR2. I finally got it to read my original CD which was SR1 but an upgrade only which would not permit loading onto a fresh system. I loaded the SR1 stuff which probably hosed me. I then tried a Repair load using the SR2 CD, but the system would not read from the CD. It said to press ENTER, which I did, but the CD would not even cycle. (Drivers probably wrong.)

When I tried a fresh install another time, the system said I needed a FAT directory on the C-Drive to load stuff when using the "DOS" diskette install. Catch-22. Microsoft probably wants me to buy a new computer every time their software fails!

We have 5 NT workstation machines, so I'll buy a new disk and get the data off the old one on another machine. What a waste of time. When I rebuild the new one, what do you suggest as a configuration? I've seen some people recommend a 20M W95/98 partition just so DOS exists (and FAT) and can be used to diagnose/fix the NT stuff. Is this worth the complication?

BTW, how does one restore a backup when you can't boot? I have data files, but no good software for the NT environment. What do you recommend for Backup/Restore software for NT? (We have no server; just 5 peer-to-peer workstations.)
