That's not my door, that's L'il Miss Dowjones' door. See the red light just above? I live up the street, place called 'Casa Dorada'. Closest I ever was to a bear was about 15, 20 feet, smelt him strong. Stumbling through a second-growth sapling thicket in a little draw between two rock bluffs, cruising timber on a hot July day, he was likely eating blackberries. I saw him - it was a him, definite male vibes - a split second before he saw me, we looked each other in the eye for an extremely long four-fifths of a second and then he turned around and loped up his rock bluff, I loped up mine. Never felt a thing for about ten seconds and then the knees got weak, sat down and had a smoke. That was just a black bear, you see them all the time driving logging roads, they're not a problem really, except that they eat any chain oil a guy leaves in the bush, people say it's because the sticky ingredient in chain oil is sugar. Grizzlies upcoast are another matter. There are many kinds of bears. What colour is that one outside Ms Dowjones' door? A '74 tone, or a '29 grizzly hue, or some ugly hybrid deformed from the strongium 98?
