Carl,
Laptops are starting to drop prices big this time. Too bad just bought one refurbished Sharp at relatively high price from AmericanStarflex. My small company already switched from Dell laptops to WinBooks. Thanks for the list of cheap computers. Any problems w/ Cyrix MII? I owned 6X86 and seemed that it crashed more often.
Regards,
(not relating to Dell, but I don't see why many businesses or Corporation have to go w/ top of the line computers for their employees and then buy another 3-4 yrs down the line. The small firm I started to work for (this one charges client at least 150/hour for consulting work) bot many Dell desktops I think Intel Pentium II 233Mhz (?) yet they don't have the budget to have working RAM larger than 32MB...and of course you see the performance is annoying. I'd rather go w/ regular AMD 233Mhz w/ 128MB RAM. I also mean I 'd rather buy computers w/ CPU's already in the market for at least a year to save budget)

Carl -
Hitachi has been trying to figure a way to make this play for several years, and has at least 3 fairly expensive but aborted efforts that I know about. They have decent but not innovative products, no mechanism to get those products in front of customers (their mainframe team has no idea how to connect this stuff up and they have never developed an alternate route to market for midrange stuff).

I don't see them making a difference unless they make a real alliance with one of the big disaffected channel partners.

no I haven't but investors certainly have. DELL has been stuck in mud for two weeks as the mkt has screamed higher. Watch out.... I've seen stocks crash after acting like this before. 30 by end of Dec?
