How can Newbridge claim to the exclusive vendor? Because they used the keyword "backbone".

Yes, indeed, bucky... this is even getting amusing to some extent. Should the word smiths then take into account which layer of the backbone next, as there have been others who have won awards for the fiber itself, and half a layer up, DWDMs. So, NN has Layer 2 exclusivity, they say. Do I hear a Layer 3 exclusive?

Splitting OSI-RM layers in order to remain accurate to within one's own spin. Interesting. Frank

Bucky,

<<I would be surprised if more than a dozen core switches are
necessary to support this network.>>

If only a dozen core switches are necessary to support this network and if all the complexity is in the edge, why would China Post make the ridiculous call of buying ASND edge switches and NN core switches?

It seems to me that splitting the network up into multiple vendors just increases the complexity of the support with higher costs and more personnel required. How much can you save by buying a cheaper core switch if you are only buying a dozen of them? Why not just get all ASND stuff?

IMHO, there is more to this than meets the eye.

Clay

Bucky, Pat:

I think that both press releases were cleverly worded. Although, IMO, neither vendor skirted the truth. I agree with Bucky that this is an Edge vs. Core situation.

NN got the core(exclusively) and ASND got the ATM gear on the edge. End of story. Nobody lied. Neither Ejabat nor Mathews need to go to confession.;-)

One more point--as the New Public Network evolves the EDGE of the network will become increasingly IMPORTANT and intelligent. ASND owns a big key to that intelligence--SS7. Stay long.

Howdy friend. I trust you have some basic knowledge of networking and perhaps even of Ascend's equipment. That said, you may want to consider limiting your comments to things you have a GOOD understanding of. Where you don't have that knowledge, you may want to preface your comments with "IMHO or I think it SARS the packets into 56 byte cells". It seems to me that when you make statements infering that competitors equipment is inferior to Ascends without having a FIRM understanding of the technology AND the competitors product, your argument comes across as ignorant bias. Worse still, it may mislead those that don't know better.

I hope you don't take offense to being singled out. You clearly know more about these things than the average investor. As such, you are held to a higher standard.

Cheers
