Dear George, Well, not to drag us and this into total exhaustion, but why are my anecdotes illusory and not representative of at least a part of the whole truth? I understand that you say you are attempting to speak as an objective historian, something I'm not equipped temperamentally to do. But your genealogical graces are certainly nothing new -though they may be exacerbated by the smallness of our world today. The belief in his own racial superiority goes back to earliest man. My posts embarrass ME a lot too-because they're so simple. I'm not at all good at "systems in general", and for me, systems are nothing but an accrual of small actions and decisions. So it's the small things that please me or worry me or amuse me and on which I focus and from which I derive meaning. Small goals are, at least, manageable and attainable for all of us. Once they become big generalized masses of societal gobbledygook, they leave my range of comprehension and influence. When you say, "we" shit on minorities, what can I say or do except assert that I certainly try not to shit on anyone? That we try to teach the boys this, too? That I believe we (the elite?)appear to be the worst offenders because we are currently the most powerful ones and that not one other race or country or group of disenfranchised would do any better than we if they were in the position of power, human nature being what it is, but the Westbrook family unit attempts to do what it can to be good, fair, honest, to speak out against cruelty or wrong when we can. Hopes in my progeny--yes, mine and a lot of others. Not that I'm ready quite yet to give up any dreams of still achieving some things on my own. But where else can we put the hopes, dear George, unless we just give them up completely?
