Thanks for the detailed breakdown of these failures. What is worrisome to me is that the company has always maintained there are no "systemic" problems, yet the sheer number of failures and anomalies would seem to indicate otherwise. Additionally, I wonder if the slow delivery of the phones (I know a subscriber who has yet to receive his phone, which was ordered in early September) is a reflection of the problems you have alluded to?

Valueman,

I can find info on only 9 failed (ie tumbling) satellites. The
original 7 already reported from iridium (ie 11, 20, 21, 24, 27, 44,
71). Additionally now 14 and 79 have been seen tumbling. I could
not find explicit data on 48, 32, and 69. The following table does
show 69 as not at operational altitude (could this be a spare?):

wingar.demon.co.uk

I'de say the most worrisome data from the failed birds is that IR14
has recently failed. This would point to systematic failure bugs and
not just an infant failure. Especially if this failure is
related to the momentum wheel circuit board problem, which we
were lead to believe is only an infant problem.

Vman:

<(I*) Initial order of 125 (sats)>

Are they committed to buy or are those options?

Never thought a 10% replacement rate per year was worth a darn, I would hope they would get a working set on-orbit before having to launch 125. Only thing worse than paying to launch 125 sats is paying for the sats to sit in a hanger.
