PortWatch.com just listed XYLN as a buy at $18. I'm trying to
understand why the OmniSwitch isn't showing up in any of the published Layer 3 switch tests. Do you know?? Xylan specs the switch fabric bandwidth at 22 Gbps which is low compared to Extreme or Foundry products. The Xylan advantage seems to be the wide range of protocols supported -- especially for the uplink. The Army and Navy have both approved OmniSwitch. The Layer 3 market should be flying high, but Xylan is still a risky bet. According to PortWatch.com, Cisco has 40% of the switch market and Cisco's TGX8450 is supposed to be a true Layer 3 offering.
