Case 130.00
MB & P2 450 CPU w/heat sink 1500.00
Windows 98 (OEM) 160.00
STB 8 MB Video card 185.00
128 MB 100mhz ram 350.00
10.1 GB 7200 IBM HD 600.00
Panasonic 40X CD-ROM 140.00
ATAPI Zip Drive w/2 disks 170.00
USR Modem 165.00
Keyboard & MS Mouse 100.00
NO SOUND
NO MONITOR

Total cost to build myself 3500.00 (doesn't inc tax)

Dell's cost 3328.00 (inc shipping, doesn't inc tax)

Dell's extras:
Not to mention the extra bundled software,
that some MS fanatic would druel over, MS office,
Publisher, Money99, etc........
Dell's 3 year warranty. (limited)

The above are the actual items in my computer and
was priced from other computer dealers in Canada,
prices are approximate as of September 98.

It was still cheaper to by a DELL, but the drawback
is the Main board is in this box for good. You can't
stick in another board without chopping up the case.

The cost of my Dell XPS R450 in September
was 3300.00 (includes 160.00 shipping but no taxes)

These prices are September 98 Canadian,
approx $1.55 exchange rate, when the 450's
just hit the market.

I would like the option of sticking in a new mainboard,
but that's the price you pay with the big name computers.

Ram

I am going to grab two 128's, and pop them into the BH6 oc'd 300a combo, question is, what quality of ram do I want to grab?

I am getting a little lost between cas2 cas3 10ns 8ns ecc ? no clue what ecc is.

I hate to spend $250 on a 128 if the $185 stuff will do everything I need.

tweakit.com

Any help is greatly appreciated.
