Mechanically, you open an account authorized for option and/or short trading, provide the necessary margin, then trade and take your chances like any other investment. This thread was set up to discuss the wisdom of such trades.

Buying puts on the internet stocks seemed like a good idea until recently. But with the latest, wholly unrealistic increase in prices, I find puts on Internet stocks too expensive. I think the better route would be to sell short, but I myself have never done that. I've heard that Internet stocks are hard to short due to how heavily they are traded. I doubt that. A good broker should be able to find plenty of Internet stocks in margin accounts -- either those of their customers for through other companies.

Anyone with experience in this area care to comment?
