Baldwin, Yes your Merrill Lynch account DID change. A typical account number has this format 123-45678-1-5 the ninth digit is the "type"

The Type 2 account number would be 123-45678-2-8 for example.

And YES they did separate that position into the separate account. Look on your monthly statement and on the left side margin in your positions you should see a "1" or a "2" for each long position.

Every Margin retail account usually has a Type "1" "2" and a "3" account. "3" is the short positions account, it come automatically with a margin account in most cases.

Merrill Lynch is one of the most conservative. They know the law. They probably even instructed your broker to be careful advising you with regards to OTC-BB stocks (as per the law). ML does not want to be caught "recommending" an OTC-BB issue. That's basically verbottin.
