As for her relationship with the Virgin Mary - she was her father's daughter and was responsible for the imprisonment, torture and murder by hanging, crushing and drowning of many Catholics including priests and for having their hearts cut out as they still breathed after strangulation, their bodies quartered and their heads stuck on pikes around London. On the other hand she was educated and refined. Women can be so complex! (And, may I hasten to add, so can men be.)
