<<BTW, what do you define as "hope?" I allege that it is part of self-interest>>
Hope to me is the source of faith, the assurance in God to control the outcome of life. This can be in many levels it is self interested in our joy and peace and non self interested as in hope for the outcome of those we love that do not love us back. Yeshua taught that if you only love those that are loving you back what credit is that. This all comes back to Love your neighbor as yourself.
<<Such a question is irrelevant to me. It does not matter to me because I cannot prove such a thing on this world. Pondering about that which I will never be able to explain will only hinder me from pondering the things I can prove in this day and age.>>
If you are willing Yeshua will prove Himself real to you and you will have no need to prove His reality. No one can prove Him but He reveals Himself as He chooses. The level of coincidence in the Earth and the history of men to have been a result of a bang in space is to high to be realistic. When I consider the works of His hands I am filled with awe and hope in His wisdom and love.
<<In other words, the Church could be viewed as an individual because it possesses a unifying goal and is founded upon that goal, whatever it may be.>>
This is a hard area for me. My husband ALan is a Jewish believer and my father is Jewish so we have seen the result of the persecution of the Church. That is how I came to the conclusion that God will deal with the people within these groups for their intent and motives. The apology of a front man that had nothing to do with what happened long ago has no value in sincerity to me. It is a shallow attempt to right the errors of others. This year the Catholic Church made a public apology to the Jews for their part in the holocaust after 50 years and became impatient that the Jews did not respond immediately to their apology. I would imagine that the wounds sometimes are too deep for words and the source of the apology can seem phoney.
However, the teaching of my Master says that "if you do not forgive others you will not be forgiven", so that kind of puts a light on it.
<<That's a Protestant view... are you Protestant?>>
I am a Messianic Jew and sometimes I think it would be easier to be from Mars. From my understanding of the term it includes all that are not Catholic, so I am protestant.

You were asked "Do you believe there is a higher power than yourself in the Universe?"
You answered "Such a question is irrelevant to me. It does not matter to me because I cannot prove such a thing on this world. Pondering about that which I will never be able to explain will only hinder me from pondering the things I can prove in this day and age."

Your reply is a total cop out. You weren't asked if it mattered to you you were asked what you beleive. If you limit yourself to the realm of what "you" deem plausable (or ponderable) is very limiting. You get on these guys for answering questions with scriptures or faith when that is not what was intended by your question and then you deny answering a very straightforward question. What do you beleive in regards to a higher power?
