Michael,

This may be because of the DEC purchase. DEC had/has offices in about all states and most major cities. This gives CPQ offices in all those same places and that, I think, is why they have to charge local sales tax. They, in effect, have 'local' points of business presence in all the states with employees in those states and cannot say that they are only at one sales point that is in a different state.

this is my read on it and is subject to correction based on facts from others.

Michael, the state sales tax applies to any vendor selling a product or doing business within the state. This applies to any sales even Home Shopping Network as I found out on a recent purchase. California has enforced this tax and other states have adopted the policy. MC
