Good point, Jim. We may have to keep our ears to the ground to find out the real stories, then.

Mostly watching Y2Ks move down more, but we are close enough to bottom here for most of them, in my opinion. Still have some left overs from a while back.

I was hoping I could hear some opinions on Y2Ks in and out of list.

What are your thoughts?

Re the lookout for # of bank mergers in 1st quarter next year as a clue to Y2k problems...

I believe the Feds are considering a freeze on banking mergers next year, for Y2k reasons. They know that this will be a solution that some opt for in desperation--but they also know that merging really solves little. The consolidation of trust systems can be as big and lengthy a job as repairing Y2k bugs.

I do feel the Y2k issue is behind many of the mergers that we've seen to date, including Deutsche's taking Banker's. Given the German's relative underappreciation for the Y2k issue, I'd not be surprised if this was engineered by BT as a way out of their problem.

powers to quell potential chaos in the dawn of January 1, 2000,
when the millennium bug makes its first bite...The Ottowa
Citizen reported that the Canadian military is preparing for
its largest ever deployment of soldiers in peacetime and is
calling the marshal law action 'Abacus'."
