Victor, I agree, CPQ should NOT spin off Alta Vista. It should expand its role and use it to sell computers and generate more income. It's about time CPQ's stock price starting moving up to 50 and catching up to DELL, GTW, and IBM... SHEILA from OTTAWA, CANADA, home of the SENATORS!

Victor... assuming that the AV spin-off will not materialize, the stock should hold up well anyway if EP says the right things on Friday. Furthermore, Joe Kernan and the rest of the crew on CNBC have mentioned several times that CPQ is trying to breakout and should be watched for a new high. I'm certain that CPQ will get its share of attention for the remainder of the week. I, for one, would not feel very comfortable shorting the stock right here. El

Victor: while I agree with most of what you say, and I have previously commented on the valuation of an AV IPO and it's maximum value to CPQ shareholders as a spinoff, CPQ could sell a portion (20% or so) of AV to the public in an IPO and still use its position as a majority ownder of AV to accomplish all the business add-on's that you are suggesting.

So I am saying it doesn't have to be only one or the other, it could be a combination of both.

That said, I also believe if CPQ went up today ONLY because of a AV spinoff rumor, then it is probably a good time to short the stock because it went up more than enough than should be justified on paper...but this could be the beginning of the big breakout for CPQ !!

Best of luck to the longs !!!!

Jimbo.
