The numbers IRT the layoff announcement and Asian impact simply don't compute. 48K people laid off as a result of production cutbacks? I don't think so. I think there is more going on than what was said in the announcement:
Labor negotiations are next year - nothing like a little panic IRT one keeping his job to soften labor's contract demands;
BA still has a lot of restructuring to do as a result of the merger - top heavy in management, etc. Might as well blame it on Asia as anything else.
My prediction: BA will restructure, win a favorable new 4 year contract with labor, in about a year, Company will announce "things didn't turn out as bad as they seemed" and start hiring again - if they even get around to following through with all the layoffs.
Bottom line? Looks like a buy to me - try to hit the bottom if you like, but anytime from here on out should be profitable in the long term.
Just one persons opinion,
Larry
