From Channel 5 News this evening. It somehow seems like Dickey Bradley has different priorities than Ridge Lagoon Estates:Government hands over new bungalow One Belize City woman will be spending this Christmas in a new home thanks to the government's housing project. Today Kathleen Patnett crossed the threshold of her house at number forty-one West Collet Canal and had a look around. News Five was there for the big moment. Kathleen Patnett, Home Owner "It's hard to explain; it's so much joy, so much. It's just hard to explain in words. It's a great feeling. And it's not just any house, the house is very spacious." Q: "Did you expect this type of house?" Kathleen Patnett "No, I didn't, I didn't expect it to be that spacious, right. When I saw the plan, I said this house looks small but after looking at it here, it's very spacious." Q: "And just in time for the Christmas?" Kathleen Patnett "Oh yes just in time for the Christmas. Ooh I am very happy, I can't explain just how happy I am." Q: "Kathleen what were things like before?" Kathleen Patnett "Very bad. The house was in a very bad condition. The house was over fifty years and the steps were falling down, the verandah was in a very bad condition. And when Mr. Bradley saw the condition of it, he chose me to be first." Richard Bradley, Minister of Housing "Well she is not really the first recipient. The procedure is that in fact in various parts of Belize City and out in the districts, what's happening, from about several weeks ago, I think it is perhaps as early as in September the Housing Department announced that we will be handing out a special application form. And that primarily, that application form is to gather necessary data to see how heavy the demand was for one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom type homes, whether it was concentrated primarily in certain parts of Belize City, all of Belize City, certain districts, countrywide. Out of that we discuss with the Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet that in fact there was a crying out to start a housing program as early as possible given the state of affairs with regards to homes for many of our citizens. In the case of Ms. Patnett she was a bit advance in application, because she already have been applying to other financial institutions and she had already gotten her papers. She was familiar with the process of signing a mortgage, she was prepared to make the necessary sacrifices, to pay back the monthly figure towards that mortgage." The house was constructed by Jacinto Rodriquez and his team of workers in five weeks. The house, which costs thirty-five thousand dollars, is a three bedroom concrete bungalow. Patnett signed a mortgage that requires her to pay two hundred and eighty-nine dollars a month.
