Can't they just take two V1.5 chipsets (two texelfx chips and two pixelfx chips), toss a pixelfx out and make a V2 chipset?

Of course they can, but it's the "tossing" part that led to the writeoff. If 3dfx were to do another V2 run they would have a bunch of "free" texelfx chips ready to go.

Voodoo extreme pointed out this article to me:

The article is a "which 3d card to get" article. The basic theme is, get a voodoo2. TnT is mentioned as the best 2d/3d, but the article says that get a voodoo2 with it.

Banshee is mentioned, but not really recommended (driver problems are mentioned)
