Bob stated more or less exactly as follows:"From a christian point of view I'll say that Jesus was not political at all, but He lived in a different time." Bob....as I take tentative steps out on the thin ice of my limited knowledge on the subject, my understanding of the King James version of the bible says that christians should obey the law of the land. If that is not "political", what is? If Bill Clinton, acting King in the United States of Perdition, decrees that all able bodied male subjects shall partake of oral sex in the "line of duty", then as a law-abiding citizen, you as a christian would be compelled to obey. As always it comes down to the "pick and choose" supermarket set of values. I roll my cart down the aisle that says "ethics" and I put a few items in my basket and leave the rest. I chose "freedoms" as they suit me, I stroll further to the freezer section where "morals" are placed, neatly packaged, for my tastes. Later, I begin to assimilate my own preferences into a palatable mixture of ingredients that suits me. Issues of sexual intimacy, being the constant source of human curiousity they are, serve a perfect example of what happens when I put my "potporri" to use. If in a moment of passion I put something where it doesn't belong as relates to a member of the opposite sex, (my wife) that's "marital bliss", if two consenting members of the same sex do the same, in privacy, that's "sin" and banishes the participants to a lake of fire and eternal torture....can you say "double standard"? I don't get it, nor do many other people in this "enlightened" age who simply do not buy into the mysticism of the past and "voodoo" recipes for societal remedies. I am a constant basher of the catholic church....I know that amongst the self-proclaimed divisions of christianity, many christian groups hold the catholic church in particular disdain. How can this be? Does not the doctrine which teaches to love thy enemies over thyself, not seem to *IMPLY* that such an empowered individual might at least respect others of the same general persuasion? Anyway, the catholic church in particular has a serious problem within it's ranks relating to their "celibate" priests and sisters keeping their weanies and dildos in their drawers. Shocking as that statement is....not nearly so much as if one of these twisted individuals grabs your child and commences to use her/him for sexual gratification. This is a moral outrage, and it is totally out of control. The catholic church pays out millions of dollars in hush money every year. Might they not consider that celibacy is not a good thing? How many lives need be devastated before they get their collective shit together, hmmm? I know, you can't speak to that, we are after all, less than perfect. The real trick to christianity is "I'm not perfect, just forgiven". Well, if I had my choice between a gay couple living next door to me, and a catholic priest, I'd take the gay couple any day of the week. To hell go I, even though I am a peaceful sort, even though I try to apply the principle of "live and let live" and " do unto others...", they just don't hold up in this climate of religious fervor which ultimately will be our demise. I really need to get a strict set of religious "beliefs" and go out killing people in the name of god. Or at least peeking in their bedroom windows to see who is on top, and an inventory of what is being placed where. Cheers!
