We were out driving the other evening, through the chardy white oaks and farmy vales. I don't know what a vale is, actually. I just think I know what it is from the sound. I'm not sure I've ever looked it up. So swales.

MJ says, I smell a skunk. Yep. Whenever one smells anything, it's sniffs. "That stinks." Sniff sniff. Skunk is almost simultaneous though, needs no identification, no deliberate examining sniffs; the second molecule in the car will do it, one each.

But, how do you know it's only one? Skunk, I mean. How do you know you don't smell two skunks? How would you know?

People say, "I smell a skunk." "I smell....skunk." "Skunk!"

Not, "I smell skunks."

Or "I smell a skunk family."

They must be out there together sometimes. We are fools. No wonder our legal system is collapsing.
