Dan, there are a couple of problems with your position on abortion. One is that I can't see the future you do if the current venue were changed. You suggest we would have everyone in the back alley with butcher knives. Before the November elections we had an ad running every half hour out here in Colorado. This white middle class man was speaking about his teen age daughter who would be forced into this back alley situation. Throughout his sorrowful 30 second speel there is this picture of the dirtiest, darkest looking dead end ally I've ever seen. I doubt if you could even find one close to it anywhere in Colorado. I'm thinking through the whole thing how could any father have such negative tunnel vision about the apple of his eye. I had to figure it was just good acting on a paid ad. I do remember hearing about back ally stuff in the 50s. The thing is though, it was rare and when they occured there was lots of attention on them (as there should be). But, it gave it a present and common tone, which it wasn't. There were abortion doctors then who would do it for a price. I don't remember hearing about any of them ever getting busted. The thing is, in the nineties I am hearing more about dumpster babies than I did in the 50s. I believe it is more common now to dispose of babies without qualified medical intervention than it was then. I admit to not having seen any research on this. I'm just going on news reports.
