Rick, thanks for confirming my suspicions! I've applied for an account with DNAI in Berkeley just for that reason: They have UUNET and AboveNet, two industrial strength backbone providers. I've shopped for trading firms with a primary criteria being that they use UUNET as their backbone. JPR does not. (I called; I'm not sure the person on the other end really understood my question, however.) Nor does ABWatley. I won't use Sprint or MCI.

UUNET is far too expensive to use directly by the consumer, but they consistently get the highest ratings for performance and customer satisfaction.
