This sounds like another great side trip for humble Carl!!! (He should be able to write it off due to Intel's investment in Linux!!)

Paul,

<< Just exactly what was wrong with your Dell? Blackouts? That sounds bizarre - but serious. >>

Yeah, I was on the phone with a guy from Tech Support yesterday and he made me do some things at start up and then I asked him if it was solved and he basically said I had to play with it for awhile to see if it would happen again. Seeing as I had one day to get my rebate, I decided to send it back and just get a new one. It was bizarre, and it has only happened a few times--at the start up, the screen blips black right before the DELL logo comes on, then the Windows one, etc...for some reason, the screen has stayed at black a few times (with one cursor blipping in upper left) and I had to eventually shut it down and restart bc I couldn't get out of it. Oh well, I hope the new one doesn't do it. I'm working on the one Im giving back right now and its been fine for the past few days, fwtw.

I want to support Dell's stock, so that is a bit of the reason i don't want to give up on them. ;-)

I knew I should have bought AMD in the last weeks!! You gave us plenty of good advice on doing so (ie. you bought and told us here about it). ;-))

Wondered if you had an opinion on GBLX, who are building an intercontinental network under the oceans for the future. They may have some sort of lead time/monopoly and george gilder pumped them a little last month. george is great with technologies, but timing is always another story.

all imho
