Kevin,

They are only cross compatible at the 1.44 MB capacity. Their higher capacity modes are NOT compatible with each other.

You may like to look at how many Zip drives there are out there.
If the installed base is high enough then IOMEGA is the one that you
have to be compatible with. I don't follow IOMEGA or their Zip
technology but if their installed base is large enough and their
next generation technology is compatible they could still win.

Kevin, competition is nowhere near "tremendous". HiFD isn't even in most stores yet (?) and LS120 is outsold by ZIP about 10 to 1
[a guess].

There are other worthwhile posters. I just tried to save
you some time.

To install the backward compatible HiFD you need to have a 1.44MB
floppy installed first. A major blunder by Sony.
