Jim,

I don't know whether you or anyone else here reads over at the Yahoo boards, but I made a post over there that might interest the readers on SI.....

I'm sure there are other points to be made, but these are what I see to be the most salient points.

For those chartists out there, you might like to take a little look at: clearstation.com

Note the 13-day EMA, which THQI tracks pretty closely with. When it gets too far ahead of the EMA it drops a tad or flattens out until the 13-day EMA catches up. When it drops below the 13-day EMA it is typically of a very short duration. Project out a few days and you'll notice that the downside at this point is minimal. MACD is flattening which is consistent with the 13-day EMA interpretation.

Also note the stochastics at the bottom. THQI moves up on the positive stochastics and stochastics have just turned postive. Additional aside...if you can see a head and shoulders formation anywhere here, you're halucinating. Also, head and shoulders formations only apply to companies that are overpriced and facing declining revenue/earnings. Clearly not the case here. More on this below.

Additional information of interest is
stockpoint.com

Note here that THQI is rated number 2 out of 290 in the COMP-SOFTWARE Group. (Similar to the IBD rating of 2). Note also that each analyst rates THQI as a (1),i.e., Buy. Note also that with an EPS of 1.65 growing to 1.96 next year. That's a current P/E of 17 and a forward P/E of 14.6 (18% earnings growth rate). One also has a reasonable case that the consensus EPSs shown here are conservatively low.

For those that are fundamentally inclined....
stockpoint.com
Note here, in particular the gross margins of 53.59%, an a ROE of 30.08% and ROA of 18.82%. (Not shabby). Debt: zip.

I've played this stock long and short, but personally, I wouldn't touch a short position on THQI at the moment. Short positions were high last month and there hasn't been enough activity to clear them out. Potential therefore exists for a short squeeze. If I were to try to time a short position it would be after earnings were reported. Right now, December and January are looking very comfortable for the longs.

Best Regards,
Jim

I'm going to make my first ever video game purchase, Rugrats, as a Christmas gift for one of my young cousins. Its $44.95 at EB, and the same price at the THQ store online. I would like THQ to make the most profit out of my purchase and I would think that THQ would make more profit if I buy it direct from their website, right? Anyone know if that is the case for sure and how much more THQ makes if you buy the stuff direct from them rather than through a retailer?

Rugrats,

s.r.

(I'll be in NYC for the weekend so I'll check back again on Monday night)

Does anyone know yet what the initial oder for Rugrats was?

I'd like to make a gentlemens bet with TW over Rugrats and Revenge. When I spoke with him, he considered Revenge to possibly be THQI's biggest game ever. I thought Rugrats might be the one to claim that honor. I think it is going to come down to initial shipment size, since it is becoming very obvious demand for both products is HUGE. Hey Todd, would you like to put a wooden nickel on it?

I maintain that Rugrats will have an extended shelf life, and considering the N64 version release early next year will probably create another buying surge, I think I may just have this bet locked up :o)

There already is another Rugrats movie in the works by the way ... oh, I didn't know that, oops! Straw poll time, how many people have NOT seen some sort of Rugrats promotion this past month? That's a sucker bet, and remember THQI was savvy enough to let this part take care of itself, focusing their marketing dollars directly at their target audience. Thank you Sony, thank you Burger King, thank you Nickelodeon; think what this says about these leading companies opinion of THQI, it really is quite a compliment to THQI if you think about it.

So ... where do we go from here? Given THQI's tendency to select proven winners to build a product around, development efforts will probably be nothing of a suprise when they are announced. However, I think distribution (especially in Europe & England) is a potential area where we will see some more activity. Maybe a nice distributor in England, so THQI can shove another 500K units of Rugrats and Revenge out the door. Wouldn't that be nice?

Big FAT quarter, that's what this one is shaping up to be! Before anyone criticizes THQI for not producing enough units for the holiday season, I think it's important to remember it is EXACTLY because of their outstanding inventory management that we don't get burned with dead inventory. In the long run, I will always prefer a few missed sales to burning a bunch of useless crap. We can always grow over the long-haul right?

Rugrat Regards, JB (aka "that Rugrats guy")
