Zead, I agree with you. This time last year we had a lot more competition, a lot more...syqt was eating into jaz, we did not have buz or jaz2, we did not have laptop zip, AND we were not into cpq/dell/ibm options on laptop and desktop, we were not in national ads from cpq, we were not in radio shacks all over with cpq, AND we did not have zip250, and clik!!!.....AND pc sales are very brisk...AND we are cutting costs big time!!!! all should add up to a good/very good future imho

Zead -- remember also that right in the middle of all the 4Q expectations and pre-split price in the $30's, Darrell gave us a quiet post or two which warned of what was in the works. A couple of people trashed him for it, most all of us ignored him and/or were puzzled by the message. Then we got the news on the split, ignored its implications ("hey, they need shares for employee options") Things have never really recovered from that January day of eranings/ad campaign when KE spilled the beans.... looks like the recovery is finally in place a year later.

RE: With demand picking up, component prices stabilizing and less competition for IOM one can't help but wonder whether all these factors add up to a rather positive

Just received a 36 page catalog from D&H and as I was bowsing thru it I couldn't
help but notice the numbers of manufacturers for the many different categories.
I mean page after page of monitors, modems, video cards, scanners, joy sticks,
mice and track balls, printers, cd drives, cameras, keyboards, and speakers etc .
You could take any one of these categories and count 8 competing manufacturers
or more, all of these guys face fierce competition. Just as the retail ads suggest
there isn't competition when it comes to removable storage, Zip dominates the market
And has become the hi-density standard, it's blatantly apparent.

One of the developments that I've noticed lately is the varied prices that ATAPI Zip
is showing. They have covered the price range from $45.00 at buycomp.com to
$99.00 retail. Market domination thru predatory pricing will be a requirement to
replace the 1.44 floppy. Looks like the retail price is prepared to go down to the
$45.00 range and at $45.00 retail this guy IMO replaces the 1.44 floppy

IMO folks we are on the verge of getting where many thought we would get to.
