The level and quality of teacher, from what i have observed, has deteriorated dramatically from 10 years ago. There's nothing more important in the level of education then the teacher schooling the students. Here in NJ, the teacher union, the NJEA, may be the largest and most powerful union in this state, possibly in the country. Recently, new computers were acquired by a township here in NJ. The only caveat was that the teachers would have to take a 2 day 3-hour course to train for the new computers. There are still sitting in the boxes. The teachers refused to take the afterhours course, for which they were being paid, 19 dollars an hour. Here in my office, we use "history sheets" which evey new patient fills out. It includes name, address, medical history, etc. I've had teachers from this state mispell their own name, the street they live on, and/or the township name. They've put the date in the space where it clearly asks for their birthdate. I've seen the word "caddilacs" in the part where we ask for family medical history. They meant "cataracts." I could go on and on about the teachers union. How the school costs almost single handedly drive up the property taxes in this state for example. How the teachers have no "continuing education" requirements. How the are almost impossible to fire, despite any complaint from the community or poor performance they exhibit. What other kind of job guarantees job and salary, despite performance, gives complete summers off, you get paid on snow days, and also for the days added to make up for time lost due to snow days. paid days off for "teachers conventions" to Atlantic City" The teachers are responsible for the children of this country. For their level of knowledge and skill, and their socioeconomic future. Shouldn't there be more care and "due diligence" when it comes to getting the best performance from them?
