Paul - RE: "What will potentially kill the K7 is the Katmai Launch - if it indeed is in late February or early March of next year, that would give it a possible 3 month head start on the K7.

If the KNI are as powerful as has been "suggested", that will render the K7 INCOMPATIBLE and INSUFFICIENT compared to Katmai when it comes to support high performance applications for EDA, CAD, 3D GRAPHICS, etc.

The K7 may have to be targeted at the high end gamers that want to preserve the past library of 3D NOW games (like the runaway best seller Kick Engine) ! AMD will have to sell it cheaply for these gamers because their parents have limited money for their allowances."

Tell us when wake up from your wet dream.

Paul, I think there will be "surprises" on both the Katmai technology and marketing fronts. Intel has had a good deal of time to learn from its MMX mistakes, and one thing Intel excels at is responding to challenges. I've also been told that Intel is starting to "leak" some Katmai information to certain brokerage houses, and is probably one reason why there has been heavy institutional buying lately. Intel has also said recently the Katmai launch will be associated with the biggest marketing blitz in their history, tauting Katmai-optimized software, the Internet, etc. It will be interesting to see how AMD responds...contrary to the AMD stalworts here, I predict AMD will be scrambling to incorporate KNI (and save face at the same time!!)

Come on Paul, You know Gamers tend to stay near the cutting edge. They spend a ton of money on computer equipment.

AMD has done a great job with processor performance in games. Too bad that if you want to run anything else, you are better off buying an INTC chip.
